Economic Times Hindi Features EquiRize on High-Yield Bond Risks and Tenure Alignment
October 13, 2026

EquiRize Securities has been featured in The Economic Times Hindi in an article explaining the key risks investors should assess before investing in high-yield bonds.

The article highlights that a higher interest rate may reflect higher underlying risk. Investors should therefore evaluate more than the visible yield before investing in a bond.

Mohit Gupta, Co-Founder, CTO & CPO at EquiRize Securities, emphasises the importance of matching a bond’s tenure with the point at which the investor expects to need the invested money.

Credit risk comes first

A bond investor is lending money to a government or company. If the issuer’s financial position deteriorates, interest payments or repayment of principal may be delayed or missed.

Investors should review the issuer’s financial strength, credit-rating rationale, repayment capacity and security structure instead of relying only on the quoted yield.

Higher yield requires a closer review

When a bond offers a significantly higher interest rate than comparable instruments, investors should understand why the additional return is being offered.

The additional yield may reflect differences in issuer quality, leverage, tenure, security, liquidity or market demand.

Interest-rate changes can affect bond prices

When market interest rates rise, the prices of existing bonds may decline. This becomes especially relevant if an investor needs to sell before maturity.

Longer-tenure bonds may be more sensitive to changes in interest rates, making tenure selection an important part of the investment decision.

Liquidity and reinvestment risk also matter

Some corporate bonds may have limited trading activity. If an investor needs funds urgently, finding a buyer may take time or require selling at a lower price.

Reinvestment risk can also arise when coupon or principal proceeds need to be invested again at lower prevailing interest rates.

Diversification remains important

Concentrating a large portion of a portfolio in one issuer, sector or maturity period can increase portfolio risk. Diversification should be considered alongside the investor’s objective, liquidity needs and risk tolerance.
